Pottsgrove High School marching band honored after sweeping American Open Class championship

The Pottsgrove School District board recognized the Pottsgrove High School marching band after a championship season in the Cavalcade/Cavalcator circuit. Band director Elie Zerafis told the board the ensemble of 47 students won the American Open Class championship in Pennsylvania and "swept every single caption award," including color guard, percussion, overall music, visual and effect.
Justin McAdams, CEO of Cavalcator Bands, congratulated the students and thanked the district for supporting arts programming that enables sustained excellence across dozens of schools in the region.
Zerafis described the work behind the achievement: extensive rehearsals "in the heat, in the rain, and in the cold," long design cycles for seasonal shows and heavy volunteer and parent involvement building props and managing logistics. "Winning an open class in the marching band is equivalent to winning the Super Bowl," Zerafis said, framing the competitive level of the accomplishment.
Board members thanked staff, volunteers and parents and noted equipment investments and instrument-replacement plans intended to support retention and continuity across grades.
The recognition was presented near the start of the meeting; board members also highlighted the percussion section and individual staff who supported the season.
