Board previewed 2024–25 district report card and scoring mechanics

District leaders briefed the board on the forthcoming 2024–25 state report card and explained how composite scores are calculated.

David Johns and Jess Vanden Hubbell walked the board through the report card’s four components — achievement, growth, target-group outcomes and on-track-to-graduation — and how those pieces are weighted differently depending on demographic profiles such as the share of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Vanden Hubbell emphasized that because assessment norms were recently renormed, the district is comparing only the latest two years in some subcategories and treating 2024–25 as the baseline for new reporting metrics.

They described target-group outcomes as a composite for the district’s lowest-performing 25% of students (about 2,700 pupils) and said improvements there are an important indicator of equity-focused progress. Presenters noted some modest year-to-year variance in achievement and growth scores and said the district will return in January with an academic-excellence update that includes early checks from newly adopted screeners.

Board members asked for clarity on weighting, whether changes are significant, and how to interpret small shifts across the two-year comparison; staff said the most recent year is weighted heaviest for achievement and explained the DPI online tools that model weighting by demographic profile.

The presentation was positioned as context for the public release of full report cards the following day.

The board did not take formal action on the report-card materials during the work session.
