Parent raises mold and ventilation safety concerns at Iowa Colony Junior High

"My son currently attends Iowa Colony Junior High School, and I am here because in several of the classrooms with a minimum of at least 5, there has been visible mold," Mackey said. She described mold on ceiling tiles around central vents, reported that testing had confirmed mold, and said most affected tiles had been removed but that campus leadership had declined a request to test and clean contact surfaces around the vents to prevent regrowth. Mackey said students had reported "funny smells like mildew as well as headaches, light headedness, and dizziness."
The board did not take action during the public comment period; the president reminded speakers that the board cannot take immediate action on public comments and may refer requests to the superintendent for follow-up.
