Board hears town finance overview; approves $22,990 per-pupil tuition rate

Director Butwell (finance) explained the district’s tuition-rate formula for nonresident students: total BOE budget divided by the official October 1 enrollment. Using a $40,600,000 budget and an October 1 count of 1,766 students, he calculated a per-pupil tuition amount of $22,990.
Chair Gudutti asked for a motion to approve the tuition rate. Miss Franklin moved the item and Mister Schuman seconded; the board voted by voice (ayes recorded; no opposition stated) and approved the tuition rate as presented. The transcript does not show a formal roll-call tally.
Ireland also outlined the budget timeline: budget books in March, BOE and town presentations in March–April, finalization in mid-April and a town referendum the first Tuesday in May; if the referendum fails the Board of Finance will revise and resubmit the proposal. He said the town secured favorable bond terms for the middle school and noted an S&P reconfirmation of the municipality’s rating.
