Architects show design, timeline for replacement Mustang Road elementary school

Arcadis representatives presented schematic designs to the Alvin ISD board for a new elementary school to replace Walt Disney Elementary and Stevenson Primary.

"We're here to present the project update for replacement elementary school at Mustang Road," Greg Wang, Arcadis project manager, told trustees and described a site just south of the existing Disney campus with separate bus and parent drop-off circulation and classroom plans designed to admit natural daylight into every classroom. He said the team is "looking at, starting construction next 2026" with completion expected by March 2028 and occupancy for the fall semester of 2028.

Senior associate Sylvia Fitzwater described the interior palette and child-focused design choices, saying the design uses muted colors that nod to campus history while featuring playful corridors, reading nooks, acoustical treatments and flexible library spaces designed to be engaging rather than intimidating for young students: "We wanted to make it fun," she said. The exterior concept includes masonry and a secure visitor entry, along with fenced play areas and a gym and cafeteria layout intended to support daily operations and branding opportunities.

Trustees asked clarifying questions about the exact location and were told the site is on the Disney side of the property, not Stevenson—s side. No formal action was taken; the presentation closed with an invitation for trustees to review the full materials.
