The Solon Board of Education on Nov. 10 approved routine consent items including minutes from Oct. 27 and the payment of bills totaling $314,263.27.
Board motions recorded during the meeting included approval of the minutes (moved by Mrs. Barksdale; second by Mrs. Abramowitz) and approval of bills as presented. The board also approved personnel items: the retirement of bus driver Art Chris after 20 years; the resignation of Diane Britton (effective 10/27/25); appointment of Tony Delano as an as‑needed substitute for the 2025–26 school year; home instruction tutors for students out for extended periods; and tuition reimbursements listed in the attachment.
On procurement, the board voted to authorize the Ohio Schools Council to advertise for and receive bids per submitted specifications to purchase three school buses for the district’s stated '2627' school year; the superintendent said long lead times mean purchases will likely be paid in fiscal year '27. The board also approved a resolution declaring transportation to certain private/parochial students impractical under the statutory reasons listed, enabling those families to apply for payment in lieu of transportation. Several unpaid leaves of absence for 2025–26 were approved, including one for a bus driver who the superintendent said chose leave rather than resignation.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by the board during the consent portion of the meeting; no formal dissenting votes were recorded. The board set its next regular meeting for Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
