Residents urge Village of Hartland to add flashing beacon at busy Lindenwood–Maple crossing
Summary
Residents told the Village Board the Lindenwood–Maple crosswalk is unsafe for children and people with limited mobility and urged the board to fund a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) in 2026; trustees heard two personal safety accounts and acknowledged the request, directing staff to consider a resolution.

Stacy Laflamme, a 12-year resident of River Reserve, urged the Village Board on Nov. 10 to allocate funds to improve roadways around River Reserve and to install a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) at Lindenwood and Maple.
"Crossing Maple at Lindenwood is common for kids going to school and residents going to neighborhoods on either side of Maple," Laflamme said, describing drivers who do not stop and arguing that an RRFB would increase driver yield rates and reduce crashes. She asked the board to "consider a resolution to move forward on a vote to add 1 RRFB at Lindenwood and Maple in 2026."
Another resident, Melissa Katie, told trustees her daughter Madeline “almost got hit” at the same crosswalk. Katie said reduced speed limits and current signage have not been enough: "People just don't see that intersection, even with those flags," she said, and asked the board to allocate budget funds to improve safety for children and people with limited mobility.
Board members acknowledged the concerns during the public-comment period and expressed appreciation for the firsthand accounts. The board did not vote on a specific RRFB purchase at the meeting; staff will include the request as a topic for future consideration and budgeting. The requests were heard as part of the public-comment segment early in the meeting.
Next steps: residents asked for a resolution and funding in 2026; the board indicated staff will evaluate options and return recommendations in a future meeting or as part of the 2026 budget process.
