Wethersfield board unanimously reelects Bobby Hughes Granato as chair; Matt Locavoli named vice chair

The Wethersfield Board of Education unanimously reelected Bobby Hughes Granato as board chair and selected Matt Locavoli as vice chair during its Nov. 11 organizational meeting. The board voted by roll call after nominations; Granato was nominated by a board member and seconded before the unanimous vote. Granato accepted the office and thanked the community, saying she wanted to "extend my heartfelt gratitude to the town of Wethersfield and to the board of education."

The board also completed routine business. Members approved the minutes of the Oct. 28 regular meeting after a motion and second, and approved corrected minutes of a special Oct. 28 meeting (the minutes were amended to include John Gazzar in the attendance list after a board member noted he had participated). The board recessed and later reconvened; Sue Schrader administered the oath of office to incoming board members before leadership elections resumed. The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn that carried unanimously.

Board members used their remarks during the organizational meeting to outline priorities for the coming term, including support for the superintendent’s transition and continuing work on facilities and the second phase of the school referendum. Newly elected vice chair Locavoli said he would "show up, engage with everyone, listen, and try to do my part to advance Wethersfield Public Schools."
