City council hears presentations, issues proclamation for Community Pay It Forward Day

The Port Huron City Council opened its Nov. 10 meeting with a proclamation designating Nov. 19, 2025, as Community Pay It Forward Day, presented by Mayor Anita R. Ashford and accepted by Patrick Patterson, executive director of the Bluewater Recovery and Outreach Center.
The Beautification Commission, led by President Stephanie Romales, reported on its annual work: maintaining about a dozen flower‑bed locations across the city, recognizing more than 70 residents, and receiving $3,300 from the council to support its activities. The commission named Kathleen Koss as this year’s Steve Revnick award recipient.
City staff and the Discovery City Children's Museum team presented a first‑year summary of operations at the Knowlton Ice location. Museum director Dawn Schweighofer reported more than 21,000 children and families served, roughly 2,000 school field‑trip students from several counties, nearly 6,000 low‑income guests supported by Museums for All, and approximately 7,975 members; speakers credited numerous community sponsors and city staff for assistance in exhibit build‑out and program delivery.
Council applauded the groups' work and extended thanks to volunteers and partners.
