Several Wendell residents used the public‑comment period to raise neighborhood safety and development concerns.

Yvonne Stanley (Goldsboro) said recent housing development along Eagle Rock/Nightdale Road has overwhelmed local roads and asked the town to evaluate speed limits and roadway adequacy so that people and children can travel safely. "Somebody's gonna get killed," she said, describing difficulty entering and exiting local properties.

Anthony Benjamin, who said he lives at 256 Long Deer Drive, expressed strong opposition to a cannabis dispensary under construction across the street from Wendell Elementary, calling the location "very disturbing" and urging the board not to allow the business to operate opposite the school. "Please don't let this happen in our community," Benjamin said, adding he brought his children to the meeting to voice his concern.

Other public comments addressed stormwater and runoff concerns tied to the Weathers Landing / Haven of Wendell proposal; Jan and Jim Parker said they hired an engineer and asked the board not to fix a public hearing date while outstanding stormwater issues remain unresolved.

Staff responded that public comment is not a back-and-forth forum but offered to connect residents with the planning director and town manager for follow-up. Planning staff clarified that state law limits local regulation of cannabis locations and suggested the resident speak with staff for specific regulatory clarifications.
