Nina Rasmussen, the city’s climate action program manager, introduced members of Kenmore’s Climate Action Advisory Committee on Nov. 10 and summarized the group’s work since its 2024 formation.
Committee members Chris Eastland and Mariana LaSalle described recent activities — a heat‑pump seminar, a bike clinic at the farmers market, and a city tree‑planting event on Nov. 8 that drew roughly 50 volunteers and resulted in 132 trees and groundcover plantings. They said the committee functions as an advisory body that meets monthly, provides outreach and helps shape implementation of the Climate Action Plan.
The committee outlined near‑term priorities: advising an upcoming Climate Action Plan update, continuing municipal actions (tree canopy and urban forestry inputs), supporting EV infrastructure planning, and increasing youth engagement in climate work. Eastland and LaSalle emphasized balancing ambition with realistic staff capacity and available budgets.
Council members thanked the committee and raised practical questions about next steps. Staff said the city set aside special‑projects funding to develop an EV‑charging work plan and that further details on prioritization and implementation will be presented in January. The committee said it had surveyed multifamily property owners to explore incentives to expand charging access for tenants.
What’s next: Staff to present an EV infrastructure work plan in January; the committee will continue advising the CAP update and community outreach efforts.
