HR presented FY25 turnover at 13.49% (up from 12.84) and an exit survey (105 completions) reporting gains in compensation satisfaction, department culture, morale and intent to return; certified turnover (11.57%) remains well below a cited statewide rate.
Owasso Public Schools Human Resources Director Lisa Johnson told the board that the district's overall turnover rate for fiscal year 2025 was 13.49%, a modest uptick from 12.84% in FY24, and that the increase remains below statewide trends cited for teachers.
"For fiscal year 25, the district's overall turnover rate was 13.49% compared to 12.84% in fiscal year 24," Johnson said, adding that certified staff turnover was 11.57% in FY25. Johnson cited the Oklahoma State Department of Education's most recent published teacher turnover figure of about 24% to contextualize the district's rates.
Johnson presented exit‑survey results based on 105 completed responses (a 53% response rate among those contacted). She said 67% of the selections identifying reasons for leaving were unrelated to the district, and 68% of respondents listed an unrelated reason as the single most important cause.
Survey highlights Johnson reported included improvements across compensation and benefits satisfaction (up to 72% satisfaction), department culture (up to 75%), training satisfaction (71%), and staff morale (up to 75%). The report also showed 77% of respondents would be interested in returning to work at Owasso Public Schools, up from 68% the prior year.
Trustees asked about methodology; Johnson clarified that 29 of the 105 completions were phone interviews and 76 were electronic submissions, and that support employees receive only the electronic survey. Johnson said the district submits former certified employee phone numbers to the third‑party vendor to encourage live exit interviews but accommodates electronic responses if preferred.
