Maple Heights board approves $49,975 audio upgrade for high school auditorium

The Maple Heights Board of Education approved a $49,975 purchase from NPI Audio Visual Solutions on Nov. 10 to upgrade the audio system in the Maple Heights High School auditorium.
Mr. Curtis, who presented the proposal, said the current system predates the new high school and is "older than the building," limiting functions and supporting only one wireless microphone at a time. "One wireless microphone is all you can use with the system," he said, and described frequent outside service calls and a lack of replacement parts for the aging equipment. The proposed work would replace the audio rack, receivers and mixing board while reusing existing speakers and wiring.
Board members said the upgrade would let students run sound and lighting more safely and reduce stage tripping hazards by freeing up cable runs. The board moved and approved the purchase by roll call (Shepherd yes; Moore yes; Cheeks yes; Blackwell yes; Miss Granger absent). The purchase was described as a modernization to support musicals, performances and remote meeting setups, including the ability to support multiple microphones.
The motion passed; staff will proceed with procurement and scheduling for installation and will report logistics and training plans back to the board.
