Freeport resident raises concerns about nearby solar installation and missing ZBA recording

During public comment, Freeport resident Karen Rivers raised several concerns stemming from a nearby solar installation and county recordkeeping.
Rivers said she had presented a packet to the Zoning Board of Appeals at its October and November hearings but that material had not been forwarded to the county board. She told members that abandoned and broken solar panels along a neighbor’s fence line had been removed on Sept. 19 after more than a year of effort, but alleged a separate solar array next door was built outside its approved perimeter and measured about 73 yards from her house — far closer than the 500‑foot distance she said the county had approved.
Rivers also said she filed a FOIA request for the ZBA hearing audio and was told the zoning office could not locate the recording even though a transcriber had a copy. She asked the board to address the flag placement in the meeting room and to ensure the record is complete and provided to affected parties.
Chair thanked Rivers and moved on to the next agenda item. No immediate board action was taken in response to her comments; Rivers’ comments were entered into the public record.
