Effingham CUSD 40 report card: graduation and proficiency metrics largely steady or improved

Shelly Beck presented the Effingham CUSD 40 2025 Illinois report card and the board accepted the official summative designations.

Beck said the district’s four‑year graduation rate is 88.8% (rounded to 89%) and the 3–8 ELA proficiency rate is 51% (up from last year). Math proficiency for grades 3–8 was reported at 39.1%, also improved and slightly above the state average, with growth metrics rising in both subjects. At the high‑school level, ACT results showed 54.1% proficiency in ELA and roughly 39% proficiency in math; science proficiency was reported at 44.2%.

Beck noted the district’s low‑income rate changed after moving off CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) and the district now collects more complete income data; English‑language‑learner enrollment is up to roughly 6.8–6.9% and mobility is about 8%. She described expanded interventions and a stronger intervention system at Central to support student growth and credited staff for retention and data-improvement efforts.

Board members asked for clarifications about specific metrics and accepted the report card as presented. The motion to accept was carried by roll call.
