Students presented highlights from fall activities during the Nov. 11 Centennial School District board meeting.
Alexis Colley, a student representing William Tennant High School, reported that the marching band scored 80.9 at a recent competition and that the William Tennant speech and debate team hosted the tenth annual William Tennant Invitational with 177 students from 15 schools. Colley said the team placed fourth in speech sweepstakes and fifth overall; she also cited individual state and national rankings for team members, including Caitlin Amayev and Aiden Edelman Cantor.
Colley noted Key Club service, a blood drive, theater performances and upcoming events: a winter concert Dec. 11, a pep rally and a powder-puff football game Nov. 12, and fundraising activities for the senior Disney trip and Toys for Tots.
Melissa McDonald, a junior at William Tennant High School and a participant in the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) dental occupations program, described MBIT recognitions in a Bucks County Herald region contest, fundraising by students (Salon Extreme raised $580 for Empowering Cuts), and MBIT’s open house scheduled for Nov. 20. McDonald also said 30 MBIT student leaders will attend the Pennsylvania District 2 SkillsUSA fall leadership conference and described student service initiatives, such as winter-coat drives and the Toys for Tots fundraiser.
Board members thanked the students for their reports and congratulated performing arts groups and student awardees. The student presentations occurred early in the agenda and preceded the superintendent’s Veterans Day remarks and a short video of district Veterans Day events.
