Council adopts annexation of 1206 W. 186th Street for future park, approves fiscal plan

The Westfield Common Council unanimously approved a voluntary annexation that will add about 21.7 acres at 1206 West 186th Street to the city for a future parks parcel.
Chris McConnell, director of parks and recreation, said the request is “100% voluntary” and noted the parcel sits at the northwest corner of 186th Street and Casey Road. He told council the annexation received a first reading and public hearing at the Oct. 27 council meeting and was eligible for adoption consideration at tonight’s meeting.
Councilor Kurt Wanninger moved to approve Resolution 25‑157 (the fiscal plan for the annexation); Councilor Victor McCarty seconded. The roll call vote was 6–0 in favor and the resolution passed. The council then moved to adopt Ordinance 25‑61 (the annexation ordinance) and again approved it on a 6–0 vote.
McConnell said the annexation is intended to secure land for a future parks parcel and that staff prepared the fiscal plan and ordinance following the public hearing. No amendments were proposed at the meeting.
What’s next: the annexed parcel will be incorporated into city planning and park development processes. The council’s votes tonight complete the municipal adoption steps recorded on the council agenda.
