The Elmbrook School District Board of Education spent part of its Nov. 11 meeting honoring student-athletes who won state titles this fall.
Coach Mike Sarath introduced Peyton Haugen as the 2025 WIAA Division I golf state champion, praising her “4.4 GPA,” four years on varsity and a series of conference and state achievements. Sarath said Haugen ‘‘crushed it in the classroom’’ while setting program records and shooting a two-day tournament score 12 under par. Peyton Haugen thanked her coaches and family and told students, “I would say do something that you truly love deep down and spend most of your time on that,” as advice for balancing athletics and mental health.
Later the board recognized Brookfield East’s girls tennis program. Coach Linda Lehi reviewed a season that included a Greater Metro Conference title, sectional wins and multiple individual state qualifiers, highlighting senior Caroline’s state championship and the program’s depth — Lehi said 134 girls participated in tennis this year across varsity and JV programs. Board members applauded the coaches and parents; one board member noted the investment made in court resurfacing and said the resurfacing allowed the district to host matches and strong in-district practice opportunities.
The board presented certificates to the athletes and coaches and took photos during both recognitions. Both coaches and students emphasized the programs’ combination of academic achievement and athletic success.
The board moved on after a brief Q&A with athletes and coaches, continuing the meeting’s scheduled business.
