DuPage HSD 88 board approves routine items, proposes 4% property tax levy and authorizes roof grant application

DuPage High School District 88’s Board of Education on Nov. 10 moved forward on routine business and two budget-related items: a proposed 4% property tax levy for 2025 and a district application for a state school maintenance matching grant to help fund a roof restoration at Addison Trail High School.

District staff presented the levy proposal, asking the board to adopt a resolution estimating the amounts necessary to be levied in 2025 and to establish a public hearing for Dec. 8, 2025. The presenter said the district will publish a Truth in Taxation notice in the local paper on Nov. 28 and, after adoption at the public hearing, file the final levy with the DuPage County Clerk. “We are proposing the 4% property tax levy,” the presenter said.

A board member moved the resolution, it was seconded, and a roll-call vote recorded affirmative responses; the motion carried. The board’s action at this meeting was to adopt the estimated amounts and to set the public hearing; the final levy will be adopted after the Dec. 8 hearing.

On a related facilities matter, district staff described the Illinois School Maintenance Program, a dollar-for-dollar state matching grant of up to $50,000 for maintenance of existing school buildings. The administration recommended applying for the grant to assist with planned roof restoration work at Addison Trail, which staff estimated would cost about $550,000 in total, with up to $50,000 available from the grant. The board moved, seconded, and approved a motion authorizing administration to prepare and submit the application.

Votes at this meeting on the motions described above were recorded on the roll calls called immediately after each motion; the meeting transcript records members answering in the affirmative for the carried motions. The district said it will publish required tax-notice materials and file levy documents with the DuPage County Clerk following the statutory steps.

What’s next: the board will hold the public hearing on the proposed levy at its Dec. 8, 2025 meeting where the final levy may be adopted; grant application materials will be submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education for consideration.
