District DEI leaders presented a three‑year plan focusing on belonging, MTSS behavioral supports and improving outcomes for identified groups; the board heard about a new Equal Opportunity Schools partnership to address participation gaps in rigorous coursework.
District DEI leaders and steering committee members briefed the board on a three‑year plan emphasizing three priorities: increasing students’ sense of belonging, improving academic outcomes for identified demographic groups, and reducing disproportionate behavioral incidents through MTSS and restorative practices.
Presenters said the disproportionality funding that supports DEI work focuses on African American students where disparities were identified, but that the steering committee’s work will address multiple groups (students with disabilities, English learners and others). The district described recent activities including belonging and engagement walks, a focus group with parents of students with disabilities, expanded restorative practices training for K–6 staff and an upcoming rollout of foundational restorative practice training for all staff in January.
Tim described a new partnership with Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) to analyze participation gaps in AP, dual credit and other advanced coursework. Students and staff completed EOS surveys and the district plans to use anonymous insight cards and survey results to inform access and outreach strategies. Tim told the board the EOS model has national experience and the district will receive insight cards (mock examples shown) to guide work.
The DEI presenters also outlined family engagement efforts (interpreters, transportation support, ParentSquare text messaging) and policy work including a harassment policy revision and a progressive response plan for repeated harassment incidents. Board members were invited to review data when state report cards are released and to schedule follow‑up sessions.
