Kane County’s board approved a zoning petition Nov. 10 allowing SunVest Solar LLC (doing business as SBCSG/SunVest) to develop a commercial solar energy facility south of Route 72, west of I‑90 in Rutland Township.
SunVest representative Bill French told the board the company would lease 39 acres and only use 23 acres for panels, and that the plan included a 350‑foot buffer from Route 72 to preserve space for potential village development to the north and a larger buffer adjacent to Tyler Creek to protect the stream environment. The zoning Board of Appeals recommended approval 6–1 and the development committee recommended approval with standard stipulations.
Board members said this appeared to be an appropriate location for a solar array and noted the company’s buffer and mitigation commitments. The board adopted the zoning action by roll call.
Next steps: zoning staff will finalize conditions, ensure required stormwater and access permits and complete any required agricultural/land‑use protections prior to permitting and construction.
