Stonecrest council backs locating a Blue Star veterans marker; parks/engineering to identify a site

Councilwoman Tara Graves introduced the proposal from Ayesha Fuller of the Stonecrest Garden Club, noting a typical cost range of $800–$2,400 for the marker. Fuller recommended a visible, park‑adjacent site that allows parking and landscaping. Council members suggested alternatives including Panola Shoals, the Botanical Garden area, the Arabia Mountain Trail and a site near the future Southeast Athletic Complex.
"It is one right in Avondale as you come straight into, downtown Avondale Estates," Fuller said, urging a park site where people can safely park and interact with the marker. Council members asked staff and the garden club to vet locations for visibility, safety and maintenance and to return with recommendations; the city manager said the city can afford initial markers and staff expects to present a recommended location within about 30 days.
Next steps: parks, engineering and the Stonecrest Garden Club will propose specific sites and a plan for installation and maintenance.
