Kokomo council approves two rezoning ordinances for South Main and East Jefferson properties

Ordinance 72-17, a petition by Devin and Rachel McLean (Michael Veen Real Estate Group), rezones 521 South Main Street from R-4 (medium-density urban residential) to R-5 (high-density urban residential) to permit townhouses or duplexes. Councilman Griegue moved for passage on second reading and the council voted to pass the ordinance.
Ordinance 72-18 was presented as a petition by Jason (Irvin/Urban) to change zoning for nine properties in the 1200 block of East Jefferson from R-4 to M-2 (general multifamily residential). Council discussion noted that an alleyway and a portion of roadway were previously vacated in the area; the council voted to approve the ordinance on second reading.
Both ordinances cleared the council by voice vote during the meeting. Planning staff will update zoning records and notify applicants as appropriate.
