David Gress, Development Services, updated the Raymore City Council on housing and upcoming land‑use items at the Nov. 10 meeting.
Gress said staff issued 23 new single‑family building permits in October across subdivisions including Madison Valley, Woodcreek of The Good Ranch, Eastbrook and Cunningham, bringing the calendar‑year total to 147 permits and the fiscal‑year total to 180. "We issued 23 new single family home building permits ... so that brings our total for the calendar year permit wise up to 147," he said.
Staff also summarized recent outreach: a builders and developers open house drew roughly 25 participants and followed a council work session on residential design standards; staff said they will gather feedback for a future work session and recommendations.
Two rezoning requests were highlighted. First, an applicant seeks to rezone property at 1012 South Madison Street from R‑1 (single family) to RE (real estate) — Planning & Zoning held a public hearing Nov. 4 and the council is scheduled to consider the item at first reading on Nov. 24. Second, a developer has asked to rezone Track 12 of The Good Ranch (near North Gas Parkway across Dean Avenue from Raymore Commerce Center North) from agricultural to a planned business park for a proposed federal wreckage storage facility; Planning & Zoning will review that proposal on Dec. 18 and the council expects the item in December.
Gress framed the building‑permit totals as evidence of a strong year for home construction and asked the council for direction as staff continues outreach and drafting of residential standards. Council members praised staff outreach to the development community and encouraged continuing public engagement.
Next steps: the 1012 S. Madison rezoning will return Nov. 24 for a first reading before the council; the business‑park rezoning will be before Planning & Zoning on Dec. 18 and then council in December.
