Pulaski County honors EMS crew and dispatcher after July cardiac-arrest rescue

Pulaski County Council on Nov. 10 presented awards to county emergency medical services personnel and a dispatcher credited with saving a patient who suffered cardiac arrest in July.
Speaker 5 told the council that James Handy delivered defibrillation four times during the call and that dispatcher Megan secured an air transport. “He died 4 times that day, and he is alive today,” Speaker 5 said while introducing Kayla, James, Megan and other crew members to the council.
The council praised the EMS crew and the dispatcher for following the “chain of survival,” including rapid bystander assistance, sustained CPR and quick coordination with air medical services. Kevin Bolton was singled out for remaining on the phone with dispatch despite initial reluctance, the council said.
Council members and attendees took a group photo with the award recipients. No formal action or budget vote accompanied the presentation; council members thanked the crew and moved on to the rest of the agenda.
