City Manager Jason and commissioners used the meeting to remind the public of several upcoming community events and facilities work.
"Starting tomorrow, November 11 at 11AM... We'll host the Veterans Day ceremony in the community room at Brentwood Place headquarters," City Manager Jason said, noting the room overlooks the site where "the proposed Veterans Monument will one day stand." Jason said a reception will follow the ceremony and that donations for the monument can already be made on the city website.
Vice Mayor Little encouraged broad community participation in the Veterans Day observance and the monument fundraising, saying, "It is my hope that the patriotism that's always been shown in Brentwood will shine through on this." The commission also discussed that the ceremony was moved indoors because of morning cold.
Commissioner Garris reported library metrics for October: roughly 22,000 visitors, 18,000 books checked in, about 51,000 materials checked out, roughly 5,300 people participating in programs, and 564 room reservations. Garris said the library has issued a request for qualifications for a teen-space transformation design concept (responses due Nov. 26) and that the current teen space will be converted to a quiet room during renovation.
The parks board plans a ribbon-cutting for Windy Hill Park on Dec. 13, and the parks board will meet after the Dec. 1 tree-lighting. Commissioners closed by thanking volunteers who helped with storm cleanup and recognizing employee service awards happening this week.
