Public Facilities panel approves minor easement expansion for Niagara Mohawk near Fredonia transfer station

The Chautauqua County Public Facilities Committee on Nov. 10 approved a resolution authorizing conveyance of an expanded easement and right of way to Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for work east of the North County (Fredonia) transfer station.
Aaron Gustafson, Deputy Director of Public Facilities and Environmental Director, said Niagara Mohawk asked “to slightly expand the easement that's already existing east of our North County Fredonia transfer station” so the utility can change pole structures. "They're changing the poles and the structure of the poles," Gustafson said, adding he did not know whether the work would increase the line's capacity.
Gustafson told the committee the county has a fence structure that "will fall just inside this" proposed expansion and that he is "working with law to respond that that structure be either maintained or moved and replaced if necessary." Committee members said the map in the contract shows a minimal increase to the easement. The committee approved the resolution by voice vote.
The approval allows the county to execute the easement documentation with the utility; no separate funding was required. Committee discussion did not identify any substantive objections to the terms, and staff said they saw no issues beyond the fence coordination with legal counsel.
The committee immediately moved to the next agenda item after the vote.
