Glenwood representatives updated the York County Board of Commissioners on the recent fiber build that serves areas west and south of York. Josh Henderson said the contractor completed construction Aug. 13, splicing finished Sept. 5, and house drops began Sept. 4; as of the update Glenwood had nine customers in service and 45 additional "opportunities" it plans to market.
Henderson told the board residential speeds initially support up to 1 gigabit per second with backbone capacity that could reach 2 Gbps in the future. He described challenges in securing further federal broadband grant funding: Glenwood did not pursue BEAD awards in some rounds, and some federal funds in the area went to satellite or wireless providers instead of fiber, limiting additional immediate funding opportunities.
The board thanked Glenwood for the report and asked the company to notify county staff if any post-construction washouts or maintenance issues occur.
Speakers quoted
"The contractor completed the build August 13... the splicing company finished September 5, and we started drops to the home September 4," Josh Henderson, Glenwood, said.
Authorities
No new agreements were approved at the meeting; the update was informational. The board previously approved vendor payments tied to the Glenwood project in vendor claims.
Ending
Glenwood said it will continue marketing to the 45 potential customers and coordinate with county staff on any post-construction maintenance needs.
