York County commissioners pick Cornerstone/Medica for employee health plan after debate over local service and pool protection

The York County Board of Commissioners voted to accept Cornerstone Bank's Medica proposal as the county's health insurance provider for the coming year following a lengthy presentation and discussion at the Nov. 10 evening meeting. Commissioner Bowman said the prescription benefits and local service weighed in favor of Medica; another commissioner cited the pool's protections against large spikes in renewal rates as attractive. The chair noted the decision was informed by the insurance committee and multiple briefings for commissioners.

The final motion specified use of Principal's offerings for voluntary insurance and Colonial for dental in combination with Medica for core medical coverage. The motion was seconded and passed on a roll call with all present voting yes.
