Madison County School District held a required rehearing of its final budget Nov. 10 after staff discovered an incorrect levy amount in one of the published TRIM advertisements.
Finance director Mr. Copeland explained that the district—s millage calculations and the numbers approved at the Sept. 15 final meeting did not change, but a wrong number published in the advertisement triggered the need to run the final budget approval process again under Florida regulations. "I had the wrong number posted on the advertisement," Copeland said, and the rehearing restores the correct published material.
The board approved the required local effort millage of 3.086 mills on a motion by Miss Hagan seconded by Mr. Carroll (vote 5-0). The board then approved the discretionary operating millage of 0.748 mills (motion by Miss Gibson, second Miss Knight; vote 5-0) and the capital outlay millage of 1.5 mills (motion by Miss Knight, second Mr. Carroll; vote 5-0). Finally, on a motion by Miss Knight and second by Miss Gibson, the board approved the final budget as presented by Copeland (vote 5-0).
Copeland emphasized the numbers in the budget documents before the board were identical to those approved on Sept. 15; the rehearing corrects the administrative advertising error and complies with state publication requirements.
