Norwalk used its Oct. 17 program to promote parks, seasonal events and small-business support. City presenters recapped the summer concert series moved to Norwalk Park (kicking off July 9 with Grupo Niblena, and featuring Front Street Fridays and performances through mid-August) and credited vendors, kids zones and weekly raffles for creating a festival atmosphere.
Parks staff described improvements at Robert Bob White Park, including a new playground, standalone restrooms, a full-size basketball court and horseshoe pits, and invited residents to reserve the adjacent Shoshonean Campsite for private gatherings. Hermosillo Park was described as having a renovated playground, courts, a walking path, free Wi-Fi and surveillance cameras; city materials announced plans for the city's first synthetic-turf soccer fields at a future date.
The program also promoted the 'Keep it in Norwalk' small-business campaign and a small-business spotlight contest that invited residents to vote for local favorites (a pizza contest was featured). City staff encouraged entrepreneurs to register DBAs with the County Recorder, get permits from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and apply for a city business license (applications available in Room 5 at City Hall or on the city website); the business license team was available on-site during the event.
Organizers encouraged residents to attend future events and to use city resources for business starts and park reservations. No policy votes were associated with these announcements.
