After reviewing two options, the board approved Scenario E to close Lola del Lago and relocate those students to Westwood; board and administration said Scenario E minimizes start-time changes and is more adaptable to future growth. The motion passed 6-0.
PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — The Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools board voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt a new elementary attendance boundary plan, known as Scenario E, that closes Lola del Lago as a neighborhood school and relocates its students to Westwood.
Director Powers summarized the process and the finance-and-operations advisory committee—s recommendation to choose Scenario E, saying it balanced capacity, program access and transportation without requiring start-time changes for most schools.
"Scenario C would have required start-time changes at two locations and could have affected roughly 1,570 students; Scenario E avoids start-time changes and would affect about 679 students overall," Powers said. "Our committee—s unanimous recommendation was to proceed with Scenario E because it allows growth to be absorbed more readily across the district."
Board members raised concerns about impacts on families, transportation and specific neighborhoods such as Hamilton Ridge; several directors emphasized the emotional and staffing impacts of boundary moves. Director Mason questioned whether declining enrollment argued for smaller reconfigurations; administrators responded that the overall district fill rate remains similar under both plans once open enrollment adjustments are considered.
After discussion, Director Bullion moved to accept the administration—s recommendation of Scenario E; the motion was seconded and carried on a 6-0 vote.
What happens next: administration will implement boundary adjustments for the affected schools and provide additional communication to families and staff about school assignments and transportation changes.
