Tipton City's parks update at the Board of Public Works meeting included reports of vandalism, equipment repairs and a pending staffing need.
"We had some vandal vandalism at the basketball courts," Speaker 6 said, describing two colors of fluorescent paint on the courts. Speaker 6 said the city used camera footage to identify a person, turned the case over to police and that charges were filed. Staff tried multiple methods to remove the paint, including power washing and graffiti remover, but said the attempts made the appearance worse and repainting may be needed.
Speaker 6 also said the longtime volunteer who waters downtown planters is retiring after about six years and the city will need to fill the early-morning position. On facilities, Speaker 6 reported work on the repair of a scotch pad motor and said the repair bill came to $3,300.
Board members acknowledged the vandalism but characterized it as non-malicious based on the description and photos shown at the meeting. Staff said they will follow the court process and expect police involvement to continue.
