Wheat Ridge council swears in new members, approves manager contract changes and cancels Nov. 24 meeting

Wheat Ridge formally swore in its newly elected officials at the Nov. 10 council meeting, and the council approved two consent items including changes to the city manager's employment agreement and the cancellation of an upcoming meeting.
Judge Lucero administered the oath of office to newly elected officials including Corey Stites, who took the oath and assumed the office of mayor. "I will faithfully perform the duties of the Wheat Ridge mayor position," Stites affirmed during the ceremony. Outgoing Mayor Bud Starker and departing council members were recognized for their service.
On the consent agenda, Councilor Janice Hoppe introduced item 1A, amendments to the city manager's employment agreement, described as including increased compensation, a retirement plan contribution and a technology stipend. Hoppe moved to approve consent items 1A and 1B; the motion was seconded and the clerk recorded "7 ayes, no nays," with the motion carrying.
Item 1B cancelled the city council meeting scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025, noting that no agenda items were currently scheduled and citing staff's recommendation to give council and staff more time with family during the Thanksgiving week.
City Manager Mister Goff announced that Corey Stites'swearing created a vacancy in District 3 that the charter requires be filled within 30 days. The city will accept applications for the District 3 seat through 5 p.m. on Nov. 21, conduct interviews at the Dec. 1 study session and appoint a new member at the Dec. 8 council meeting; the appointee will be sworn in at that meeting.
The council also noted that Charter Question 2B, a ballot measure that would have eliminated the elected city clerk and treasurer, was defeated. Chris Miller will continue to serve as city treasurer through his term ending in November 2027; staff will return with a proposed schedule for filling the vacant city clerk position.
The meeting included a ceremonial proclamation declaring Nov. 29, 2025, Small Business Saturday in Wheat Ridge, citing national Small Business Saturday statistics and urging support for local merchants.
The council recessed briefly and immediately convened a special study session for elected-official orientation.
