Madison Heights City Council voted to approve a health services agreement with Marathon Health LLC for operation of the My Life Health and Wellness Center, a regional employee clinic located in the lower level of City Hall.
Staff explained the center, opened in 2015 through a partnership with neighboring communities, has saved the city an estimated $325,000 in direct medical costs over the last decade by offering on-site primary care to employees and dependents. Marathon Health was selected after a review of qualified providers; staff cited Marathon's experience operating wellness centers across the state and noted the agreement updates performance reporting and cost-sharing provisions and allows additional municipal partners to join by joinder.
The packet noted the city's cost under the new agreement would increase about $2,000 annually but that adding another community partner through the Joinder process could reduce Madison Heights's cost by about $10,000. Council members praised the clinic model: "That was the first thing I really realized when I was appointed...it saved my life," said the City Clerk referencing a prior health issue discovered at the clinic, and Councilor Robock commended the city manager for the initiative.
Council approved the agreement by voice vote and authorized the city manager to execute necessary documents.
