Saint Joseph schools: single bid of $66,750 for Coleman accessibility lift presented to board

District staff told the Saint Joseph Board of Education on Nov. 8 that an RFP published for an accessibility elevator at Coleman produced a single bid: a turnkey proposal for $66,750 that covers equipment and onsite installation. Presenters said the work is a new installation (not a replacement) and that funding would come from Fund 4 capital-improvement balances; the board was told the item will return as an action item at the Nov. 24 meeting.
Board members asked whether the purchase was budgeted; staff replied it had not been budgeted at the start of the year but cited a pressing student need necessitating the chairlift. "I would tell you we can't afford not to," a staff presenter said when pressed about funding and student accessibility needs. Trustees did not vote on the item during the Nov. 8 work session.
