Commissioner Fox says she regrets vote on Elizabetha leases, urges better information and advisers

During the Nov. 10 West Palm Beach CRA meeting, Commissioner Fox publicly expressed regret for her prior vote approving the Elizabetha leases and asked the record to show her objection to how the matter was handled.
"I think to say that I have buyer's remorse since our last meeting would be a severe understatement," Fox said. "I have looked into what the opportunities would be for me to change my vote or to have a motion to reconsider. And unfortunately, the contracts were signed on October 23, so it's too late for those things to happen."
Fox said she regretted not requesting a continuance or waiting for additional information before casting her vote. She urged the Commission to consider whether members need independent advisers to ensure they see "all sides" of matters and not only the information staff report to a single supervisor. "I have full confidence in your staff," she added, but said the reporting structure raised concerns about whether elected members receive all relevant facts.
No motion or formal action was taken in response to Fox's remarks. The mayor and other commissioners did not move to reconsider the leases during the meeting; Fox said she takes responsibility for her vote and asked that future decisions include fuller information for commissioners.
