Galesburg CUSD 205 approved a revised intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Galesburg governing the School Resource Officer (SRO).

A board member explained that changes in Illinois law prompted updates to the agreement. "The state of Illinois and the general assembly has changed some pertinent laws, pertaining to school resource officers, so, we were compelled to rewrite our agreement," the member said. The presenter emphasized that the operational role largely remains unchanged (the SRO had stopped issuing tickets previously) and that the revision mainly updates language and compliance.

The updated agreement adds a sunset review date of June 30, 2031, to ensure both parties revisit the contract on a regular schedule. Board members voiced support for the arrangement and approved the motion.
