Board approves MOU with GEA and amended personnel report amid recruitment push

Galesburg CUSD 205's board approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Galesburg Education Association and carried an amended personnel report during the meeting.
A board member praised the district and the union for mutually agreeing to open the contract and provide additional compensation mid-contract. "This is pretty amazing that we opened up the contract because we opened up a contract with our... GEA offering more money in the middle of a contract," the member said, adding the change should help recruitment and retention.
Board members discussed the broader strategic context of recruitment, facilities, class sizes and benefits as part of attracting younger teachers. The motions to approve the MOU and the amended personnel report were moved, seconded and passed by the board.
