Adams County advisory committee approves agenda, hears staffing and Practical Sense updates

Adams County's Human Services advisory committee approved the meeting agenda and minutes, and heard administrative updates from department leadership.

A motion by Supervisor Hickler, seconded by Supervisor Pease, approved the meeting agenda; the committee voted "Aye." The minutes were approved as printed with no objections.

Kelly, Health and Human Services Director, told the committee the department has hired an ADRC supervisor who will begin in two weeks and that staff may need to adjust workspace and duties as the new supervisor starts. Kelly also said staff continue to monitor telework arrangements and maintain a running document that tracks work locations.

Kelly and supervisors discussed Practical Sense, a department-affiliated store, where donations have surged and storage is strained. Kelly said the department is exploring zoning and safe short-term storage options so donated items do not accumulate unsafely; supervisors expressed concern about stacked boxes creating hazards.

Kelly also reported that Bridgeway, previously listed as a stabilization unit attached to Norwood, appears no longer to be a viable referral option and that staff will update reports accordingly.

Why it matters: Staffing, referral options and safe handling of donated goods affect service delivery to older adults and clients who rely on Practical Sense and ADRC services.
