The board heard a community schools grant update reporting $107,500 awarded to the division for family supports — food vouchers, laundry vouchers, tutoring and translation — and recognized a $50,000 donation from Boar's Head to support the district's IXL program.
The Greensville County School Board on Nov. 10 received an update on a community schools grant that will fund direct family supports and heard that Boar's Head employees contributed both volunteer time and a $50,000 donation.
Miss Franklin told the board the division received $107,500 "directly to the school division" to provide food, laundry and translation services and related supports. The grant will be used for Food Lion gift-card food vouchers, laundry vouchers (redeemable for up to $50 at partnering laundromats), in-person translation for events like parent-teacher conferences, and tutoring services as needed.
On utilization to date, Miss Franklin reported that, as of the most recent Friday, 32 of 100 food vouchers had been distributed and 68 remained; 19 of 100 laundry vouchers had been used with 81 remaining. Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in Greensville County Public Schools who participate in the Community Schools Virginia program or who meet economic criteria such as single-income households, recent layoffs (priority given to those laid off within the last six months), or families identified as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Act. Referral routes include parent engagement coordinators and school-based CIS case workers.
Separately, the board acknowledged volunteer work by Boar27s Head employees on a beautification project and a $50,000 donation to support the district's IXL instructional program. The gift was presented as part of community partnership recognition at the meeting.
The board encouraged families and school staff to use the posted flyer and school contact information to request services or referrals through parent engagement coordinators.
