Mister Pinnell, Sawyer County Highway Commissioner, summarized the department's recent work: crews completed brushing on several county roads, cleared a site for a new cell tower near Draper, finished two mastic and micro-seal overlay projects on State Highways 77 and 27, painted fuel tanks and cleaned inlets in multiple towns. He said winter plows have been installed and calibrated and frost tubes checked.
Pinnell said the county finally received a long-anticipated LRR reimbursement, delivering "roughly around 335,000 reimbursement for County W," and that the last $108,000 arrived recently. He reported seven bridge-application submissions (one for the county, the rest for towns) and that staff submitted an STP rule application for a proposed roundabout at County Road Round Lake School Road and Stress Lane. The commissioner also said the department is reviewing equipment needs and operations with the goal of reducing reliance on CIP funds.
On staffing, Pinnell said one driver-operator position in Hayward remains open and interviews are scheduled. He also announced a safety day at the highway shop on November 12 to replace the monthly training and invited attendees.
