County reports CNA program growth, teacher residency and hiring events as employers seek workers

“13 of the 14 graduates from the electrical class are now employed,” a workforce presenter said, adding that the remaining participant is being supported through placement efforts. She said the certified nursing assistant cohort currently underway will end on the 24th of the month and that spring, summer and fall CNA classes are planned, with the next starting in March.
The presenter also outlined a new teacher residency launched by BOCES in partnership with Mount Saint Mary that will accept candidates with a bachelor’s degree (2.75 GPA) or a relevant master’s degree and provide up to $30,000 in grant support toward certification. She encouraged interested residents to contact BOCES for details and distributed flyers to board members.
A county career center recruitment event scheduled for 11 a.m.–2 p.m. was listed as including the Children’s Home of Wyoming, Delaware Valley Job Corps, Catskill Veterinary Services and Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility, each advertising multiple open positions from mental‑health roles to CDL drivers and licensed practical nurses.
Staff also reported that, as of Sept. 30, a named program had served 284 people, with 211 currently enrolled and 51 individuals with disabilities placed in employment. The Center for Workforce Development hosted a workforce summit on Oct. 15 attended by about 60 employers that focused on inclusive hiring practices.
Officials framed these steps as part of a broader strategy to prepare residents for incoming projects and to support employers who have hiring needs in the county.
