Planning and Zoning Commission recommends four regular and two alternate appointees to City Council

The Planning and Zoning Commission of Cape Coral recommended four candidates for regular appointments and two alternates during its Nov. 5, 2025 meeting, which convened at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers.

Chair moved to recommend Apting, Lemieux, Severson and Schwartz for the four regular seats following an applicant interview process; the motion carried on a roll call of all ayes. The commission also recommended Kevin Craig and Charles Langenfeld as alternate members with a separate unanimous vote.

Kimberly Brunz, Cape Coral city clerk, told the commission that an application from Duane Lopez had been inadvertently omitted from the meeting packet and that Lopez was unable to attend. Brunz read Lopez’s submitted background materials into the record, saying Lopez has lived in the city for 24 years, owns multiple local companies and a recycling yard in the North Industrial Park, and is a sponsor of local events. “Just a reminder, I’m neutral on all recommendations,” Brunz said.

Applicants who spoke to the commission included Kevin Craig, who described a professional background in food-service distribution and executive search and said he wanted to support "smartly and efficient efficiently" managed growth for residents and businesses. Duper Dold, a lifelong Cape Coral resident and local business owner, emphasized commercial growth and community infrastructure. Charles Langenfeld highlighted engineering and Army Corps experience on planned development and wetlands set-asides. Incumbent Severson summarized legislative and local board experience and asked for reappointment.

The commission conducted an internal tally before formal motions. The tally reported Apting with seven votes for the regular seats; Lemieux, Schwartz and Severson also received sufficient support in the tally and subsequent motion. For alternates the tally recorded Langenfeld and Craig among the top vote-getters. The chair then moved the formal recommendations to the City Council; the commission’s recommendations are advisory, and Council makes the final appointments.

The commission also approved routine business: a motion to adopt the agenda, approval of the Sept. 3, 2025 regular-meeting minutes and the Oct. 22, 2025 special-meeting minutes, and adoption of the Planning and Zoning Commission’s 2026 meeting schedule.

City Clerk Brunz told attendees that Council will consider the commission’s recommendations at its Nov. 19, 2025 meeting; the transcript records the council meeting date and lists a time of "04:00" in the record. The Planning and Zoning Commission’s next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers.

The meeting ended with no public comments and no staff updates; the commission adjourned after confirming the next meeting date.
