Middletown Police Chief reported to the Middletown Police Commission that Part 1 crimes investigated year to date have dropped from 379 in 2024 to 221 in 2025, a decline the chief described as “down 40%.” The chief presented monthly statistics for August and September and highlighted several community safety matters that prompted recent press releases.
“For the month of August, the department handled 2,943 calls for service,” the chief said, and later reported September calls at 2,976. He told commissioners August included 33 Part 1 crimes (six violent, 27 property) and September included 27 Part 1 crimes (eight violent). The chief also reported 271 arrests in August and 228 in September.
The chief summarized recent shots-fired investigations and related press releases. He said an investigation tied to a 6 West Main Street incident produced arrests, and other reported shots-fired calls on Bunnell Street and Cottage and Prince Street were either still under investigation or determined to be unfounded.
The chief also provided enforcement metrics tied to traffic and use-of-force. He said traffic summonses rose from 449 in August to 507 in September, and the department recorded five (August) and seven (September) incidents that resulted in some form of use of force, representing about 2–3% of arrests in those months.
The commission did not take separate action on the statistics; the report was presented for review and discussion by the chief and commissioners.
