Yuba City introduces ordinance to adopt 2025 California Fire Code

Yuba City council members introduced an ordinance to repeal and reenact chapter 5 of Title 4 of the Yuba City Municipal Code to adopt the 2025 California Fire Code and waived the first reading.
Kaylee Bartlett, fire safety inspector, told the council the adoption is triennial and staff proposed carrying forward existing local amendments. Bartlett noted longstanding local requirements such as fire system installations in commercial buildings of 3,600 square feet or larger and permits from the fire department for security gates across apparatus access roads. She said most changes in this cycle were editorial or relocations, though the cycle also includes a new wildland‑urban interface code (with no local properties currently subject), revised occupancy classifications for lithium‑ion battery facilities and new guidance for safe battery storage. “We are proposing no additional local amendments this year,” Bartlett said.
After opening and closing the public hearing with no speakers, council moved and carried a motion to introduce the ordinance and waive the first reading. Staff told council that state‑mandated sections may have local fiscal impacts.
The ordinance will return to council for final action.
