Yukon narrows economic development director search; announcement expected soon

The Yukon Economic Development Authority heard Tuesday that the search for a new economic development director is nearing a conclusion.
City Manager Jeff Deckard said, “We have closed the position,” and that staff were “absolutely blown away by the quality of applicants” they received. Deckard said he, Ashley and Brian interviewed three candidates by Zoom and “we are in talks with one gentleman” who is out of state and currently discussing logistics and final details.
The selection narrows a national search that Deckard said attracted multiple qualified applicants. Deckard told the board he expects a commitment from the leading candidate by the end of the week and that the city could make an announcement the following week. Chair Justin Ellis asked staff to provide an update to the Economic Development Authority at its next meeting.
Why it matters: the director position consolidates economic development leadership and is intended to centralize and coordinate work among the city, the chamber and the authority. Deckard said the chosen candidate would be able to “hit the ground to run” and would bring experience and credibility to the city’s new model for economic development.
Next steps: Deckard will continue logistical discussions with the finalist and return to the EDA with a formal announcement once commitments and travel/relocation details are finalized.
