The Richland City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 4 to vacate a roughly 185‑foot section of Snively Road within the city limits, advancing Ordinance No. 2025‑34 on first reading.
Director D'Alessandro said the unimproved gravel section of Snively Road was annexed to the city in 1967 and is minimally maintained. He told the council vacating the specific segment would reduce the need for extensive improvements by a developer, enable a future realignment that meets commitments to the Washington State Department of Transportation stemming from an agreement in the 1980s, and support development of property between SR‑240 and the Yakima River.
Staff recommended approval and the council voted aye on the motion to adopt the ordinance.
The council also approved a range of consent calendar ordinances and resolutions earlier in the meeting by a single motion, including a first reading of Ordinance No. 2025‑36 (a 0.1% sales/use tax within the Richland Transportation Benefit District for pavement preservation and repeal of the $20 vehicle license fee effective April 1, 2026), amendments to utility billing code, animal control changes, ad valorem tax ordinances, and resolutions authorizing contracts with Colbert Construction, Bonneville Power Administration power sales, and consultant agreements with Wright Creative/Forward Partners and Gallagher Benefit Services for an employee classification and compensation study.
All consent items were approved by roll call vote with every council member recorded in the affirmative.
