Sheriff reports rising inmate count, staffing moves and October activity

Sheriff Dennis Switzer briefed the Grant County magistrate court on Oct. statistics and staffing during the Nov. 4 meeting, reporting that his office handled roughly 780 calls for service in October and recorded 20 arrests and 35 criminal investigations opened.
"As most of you know, October is a busy month for my office," Switzer said, and reported the office has collected 73% of taxes so far this month. He listed incident figures: 18 collisions, 37 citations, about 176 civil and criminal summons served, and 220 auto inspections. He also reported travel for fugitive transports and said the office completed hires including court security officer James Roberts and a new road deputy, Andrew Shaw; he also noted Deputy Zach Lewis left for Scott County.
Switzer said the jailer's report shows an increased inmate count and improving revenue from contracts with other counties, which the court accepted as part of its routine reports.
