LTAC declines broad year-round downtown marketing request, urges event-focused approach
Summary
A year-round downtown marketing application was not recommended for LTAC funds; committee members said the request lacked a concrete campaign and would be a poor use of limited lodging-tax dollars, suggesting event-focused or seasonal campaigns instead.

The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee did not recommend funding a broad, year-round downtown-marketing application, citing insufficient campaign detail and concerns that the requested funds would not be effective for the proposed scope.
Committee members said the downtown application read as an unfocused request for 'marketing year round' without a specific campaign that would prompt visitor action. One member said, 'I don't recommend any funding for this 1,' arguing the materials submitted were not sufficiently developed to justify LTAC support.
Members recommended applicants rework marketing proposals to be event-focused and measurable — for example, promoting seasonal events or targeted campaigns (such as World Cup–related promotions) — and suggested applicants pursue matching sponsorships and culture-grant opportunities where appropriate.
The committee suggested holding funds or reallocating spending toward targeted late-winter/early-spring campaigns if further council-approved resources become available.
